italy . ..

the Belpaese (beautiful country) is one of the single greatest repositories of sensorial pleasures on earth. ..from art to food, from stunning and varied countryside to flamboyant fashion, Italy has it all. ..this is the country that brought us Slow Food, devoted to the promotion of fresh products and fine traditional, cooking.. what started as a local protest against fast food has become a worldwide movement..! =)

1. pisa
the Tower of Pisa (La Torre di Pisa) is the campanile, or freestanding bell tower, of the cathedral of the Italian city of Pisa. ..it is situated behind the Cathedral and is the third oldest structure in Pisa's Cathedral Square (Piazza del Duomo) after the Cathedral and the Baptistry.. the height of the tower is 55.86 m from the ground on the low side and 56.70 m on the high side. ..the width of the walls at the base is 4.09 m and at the top 2.48 m.. its weight is estimated at 14,500 metric tons. .. the tower has 296 or 294 steps; the seventh floor has two fewer steps on the north-facing staircase..(NICE..!!)

2. rialto bridge
the Rialto Bridge (Ponte di Rialto) is one of the four bridges spanning the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy. ..it is the oldest bridge across the canal. ..this structure had two inclined ramps meeting at a movable central section, that could be raised to allow the passage of tall ships. ..the connection with the market eventually led to a change of name for the bridge..

3. museo nazionale romano
The National Museum of Rome (Museo Nazionale Romano) is a set of museums in Rome, Italy, split among various branches across the city. ..its first collection was formed from the archeological collections of the Museo Kircheriano, a collection assembled by the antiquarian Athanasius Kircher, soon supplemented by the numerous new discoveries in Rome during the expansive city-planning after it became the capital of the new Kingdom of Italy. ..

the Palazzo Altemps is located in the modern rione Ponte, part of the Campus Martius, a part of Ancient Rome that was developed beginning under the emperor Augustus. ..it is located directly north of the Piazza Navona...it houses the museum's displays on the history of collecting (sculptures from Renaissance collections such as the Boncompagni-Ludovisi and Mattei collections, including the Ludovisi Ares and the Suicide of a Gaul (from the same Pergamon group as the Dying Gaul) and the Egyptian Collection (sculptures of eastern deities). ..the palace also includes the historic private theatre, at present used to house temporary exhibitions, and the church of Sant' Aniceto ..

4. piazza de trevi
piazza di trevi is famous worldwide for its fountain, which dominates the entire square. It is located close to piazza de spagna towards the Quirinale.. it is quite closer to piazza venezia..this fountain was originally commissioned to celebrate the end of the Aqua Vergine aqueduct built by Marcus Agrippa in 19 B.C. ..there is a legend illustrated in the upper panels of the fountain. ..it speaks of a young girl who showed Agrippa’s soldiers the place from which a copious spring gushed forth.. this is how the aqueduct got its name. ..it is the only aqueduct in Rome, which has been in use almost uninterruptedly from its time of construction up to the present day.. it supplies water to the historic center from Piazza Navona to Piazza de Spagna. ..

5. boboli garden
the Boboli Gardens, (I Giardini di Boboli), form a famous park in Florence, Italy, that is home to a distinguished collection of sculptures dating from the sixteenth through the eighteenth centuries, with some Roman antiquities. ..the garden lacks a natural water source. ..to water the plants in the garden, a conduit was built from the nearby Arno River to feed water into an elaborate irrigation system..

6. viareggio carnevale

famous either as a sun-and-sand resort or the spot where the poet Shelley drowned, Viareggio is otherwise known to festival-goers as host to one of Europe’s finest carnival celebrations. ..in Italy, it’s second only to Venice’s Carnevale for party spirit..

an elongated festival, it stretches across four consecutive Sundays, each one bent around an extraordinary parade of floats. ..the largest of the floats are a staggering 20m high, 14m wide and weigh around 40 tonnes, taking five months to build and carry up to 200 people.  ..the floats feature papier-mâché merry-go-rounds of clowns, opera divas, skeletons, kings etc, and many have giant satirical effigies of political and other topical figures. ..other carnival events include fireworks, masked balls and comedy shows, and special carnival menus are turned out throughout the town’s restaurants..
